Most patio heaters actually work by heating the air around you, which means a light breeze can steal your warmth instantly. Infrared models are the exception, acting like a miniature sun that warms people and objects directly.
Selecting the right heater transforms a chilly porch into a cozy retreat. My breakdown of the Best Patio Heaters 2022 provides a clear view of how these machines actually perform before you commit to a purchase.
Key Takeaways
- Prioritize units with high BTU ratings if you intend to heat larger outdoor seating areas.
- Consider whether an electric model fits your access to outdoor power outlets compared to portable propane tanks.
- Check the safety features like tip-over switches, which cut power if the device is knocked off balance.
- Opt for models with wheels if you anticipate needing to shift your setup to track the changing sun or wind patterns.
- Match the heating technology to your climate: infrared for direct warmth and gas for broad ambient heat.
